Home Remedies for Acne

Patriciah NjarambaMost acne can be checked or avoided altogether if good basic skin care and some of these home remedies are followed to see what works for you.1.Using toothpaste for spot treatments. Pimples can be destroyed overnight if toothpaste is used to cover them. The silica found in toothpaste dries out and diminishes pimple sizes overnight if left on. Avoid toothpastes that contain sodium lauryl sulfate as the harsh chemical in them may irritate some people.2.Use cold water. Fill an empty jug with water and freeze it for 2 hours. Pour the water into a bowl and dip your face in the water for 25 seconds (do this in sets of 5 seconds each). Do this several times in a day.3.Make a soap mixture. Put a soap bar in a container then pour a cup of boiling water. Close the container and keep it tightly shut for at least 2-3 hours or until the soap dissolves. Generously apply the mix in the container, spreading it around your face and let it dry. Then wash your face out very gently using a face sponge. This should not be done more than two times per day as the skin might over-dry and peel.4.Create a face mask using a solution of a crushed aspirin tablet per one tablespoon of cold cream. Spread this mixture over the face, wait 3-5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.5.Make a baking soda paste mask. Mix baking soda and water until a thick, creamy substance is obtained. Rub it only on the pimples as the baking soda might dry out the skin and worsen the acne. Wash this off after about 10 minutes with a washcloth drenched in ice cold water. Do this about 1-2 times a day, until the condition clears. As this may not work for all acne, it should be tried on a small area of the skin first.6.Make a strong acne solution by diluting 1 part apple cider vinegar with 1 part pure water. When the acne improves, keep it at bay with a milder solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar and 4 parts water.7.Apply alum to the pimples. Being a natural antiseptic and astringent, alum helps in shrinking skin tissue. 8.Use tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is a renowned anti-fungal and antibacterial herbal remedy, and this makes it great for mild to moderate acne.9.Try chili peppers. Chili peppers help reduce the swelling of a pimple due to their high concentrations of vitamin C and antioxidants. 10.Go swimming. The chlorine in the water helps dry up acne. Exercise caution as too much pool water may cause damage to both the hair and dry out the skin. 11.Use lemon juice as a remedy to acne. Using a cut lemon gently rub the open-side of the lemon onto the acne. Wash off the lemon juice since the acid can bleach the skin.12.Slice a raw potato and apply it to the skin. Apply a sliced raw potato onto acne. Raw potato can heal as well as act an anti-inflammatory. Wash the residue off your skin gently with water after using.
